The rest of our time in Cambodia went well and we ended it with a big Khmer dinner and drinks with the friends we made while exploring the ruins and at our hotel(2 australians, 2 brits, a thai (who happened to be a guide which was useful) and a south african) It was fun to meet up with other backpackers.
Then we had an unpleasantly long day of transit. 4 hours on the horrible road back to the border in a taxi(see above for the description again :-)) another 4 hours back to bangkok on a bus, and yet another 4 hours to the beach on the train. I have to say that the timing which was not planned at all worked out perfectly but other than that it was just a really long day. We got in really late and found a cheap hotel and crashed...when we woke up this morning we discovered that we had a balcony on our room that had a view from the hills to the beach!!!!!! (which was on the next street over) Even though it was only 6am we decided to hit the beach!
On our mission to the beach we learned that this town doesn't really wake up until around 9... and the million restaurants here don't either... We ran into a random American who had moved here to become a monk (and later decided he wasn't quite monk material) who knew of a spot that was opened and took us there for breakfast.
And then we hit the beach. I can't really describe it without making everyone jealous, but let's just say it was amazing. We spent all day there, swimming in the warm water and laying out in the lounge chairs under the umbrella that we rented for $2 (the chairs also came with Thai service who would wait on us, bring us drinks, and brush the sand off our feet when we sat down) Rough life, I know...:-)
One more day here and then it's back to Bangkok for one more night and then off to Nepal!!!
Okay, I'm glad you're having fun and all, but there was a huge earthquake in Indonesia where people died!!! They say that other nearby countries could feel it and there is a tsunami warning! What's up with this?
